Growing Up Glutton

Full Disclosure: This post was written at the start of my fitness journey. Just gives you guys a picture of why my struggle is real!!! :)
----
Upon waking up from a much-needed nap, my husband informed me that he ordered us some Thai Food (still need to do grocery shop for this week!). When the food arrived, I ate my half of the order of pad thai, and it was delicious and filling. I was about to put my plate away when I noticed the mango chicken and rice. I was already full, but it took every bit of self-control NOT to eat a bite of that mango chicken. Why was it so hard? Here’s why:
I GREW UP A GLUTTON.
Two weeks before my wedding, I gained every pound and inch I tried to lose since my engagement, thanks to my family who came to visit. You see, when my family gets together, we bond over food. We can really eat. No, I don’t think you understand. I mean, we really eat. Every meal is a feast. Every bite is followed with almost-orgasmic sounds of appreciation. Mmmmmm… Every spoonful is half meat, half white rice. (Side note: This is probably why gall stones attacked my body when I was pregnant, and why I need to see the doctor again soon.)
A family motto is “Save on anything else, but don’t be stingy when it comes to food.” Not that my family saves a lot of money anyway, but we (they) specifically splurge on food (and shoes). When we get together and say we are eating “Lola Coring style,” we are referring to my great grandma, who, for every meal presented us with at least 5 entrees to go with your rice. And if you want to show her you’re polite, you would have a serving of each. And to truly appreciate her, you would have seconds…before dessert (usually Red Ribbon chocolate mousse cake). *nostalgia*
[Side notes: Funny, because even though we eat together like that, it seems that the first comment we make to each other after not seeing each other for years is how fat or thin one got. (Very bad!) ..Don’t get me wrong, I love eating with my family and enjoy their delicious cooking. I just need to have self-control and I want to encourage them to eat healthier and avoid cancers that plague us.]
So, when I saw that mango chicken, I had to tell myself that my husband really won’t be offended whether I ate it or not. I also had to remember that I should save it for lunch the next day, and that I am already full.

I put my plate away.

That moment signifies my first little triumph against the gluttony that I have grown up with.

I do not and should not eat more than I need to. I should eat more veggies than meat and rice.
Food will not master me. This blog will not be an excuse to not exercise.
I will be healthy.

Today, so far so good. I have not over-eaten.🙂
